Have your kids or grandkids ever asked where your family comes from? Do you know the whole story, or is it a mystery? Thinking about getting started with genealogy? Volunteers from the South King County Genealogical Society can help. Each month, volunteers host drop-in sessions at Renton Highlands Library and Bellevue Library to help you answer questions about your family tree, and a whole lot more.
This is a great hobby to start with tweens and teens. They are at a point in their lives where they are beginning to explore their identities and learn more about their place in the world. It's also a great use of technology skills. They'll do a lot of online research!
Genealogy is hugely popular—for good reason. Tracing your family history is often essential to connecting with past generations and your identity. As you investigate your ancestry, you might find surprising details about yourself and your place in history. It can also help you record and preserve family stories to pass down to new generations.
You can get one-on-one help at:
